There are two methods that are most commonly used for surgical hair restoration, namely Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUT Hair Transplant or Strip method

To obtain hair follicles for plantation, a strip of scalp is removed from the donor site. This strip contains all the hair follicles needed for transplantation. However, this strip is not planted as a strip. Instead, individual hair follicles are separated from the harvested strip by excising it under a powerful microscope. Once hair follicles of desired size have been obtained, they are planted into the areas of hairline that have started showing signs of baldness.

FUE Hair Transplant Method

FUE uses a different method to extract donor hair. Rather than cutting a linear strip of scalp, it uses a small punching tool to extract each follicle individually, without causing much trauma to the scalp tissues. The tool surrounds the hair follicle from all sides and extracts it without damaging it. Since it does not involve strip cutting, it is less invasive than the traditional FUT hair transplant. However, since each follicle is extracted individually, it is a time consuming procedure that requires a lot of time and effort of the surgeon.
